A Type Rating is a certification that qualifies a pilot to operate a specific aircraft type. It is required by DGCA regulations for any pilot operating multi-crew or turbine-powered aircraft above 5,700 kg. Without it, you cannot fly commercially on that aircraft type.
No. You do not need an airline job offer to enrol. Many pilots complete their type rating independently to improve employability. However, some airline-sponsored programs may have specific requirements.
You must hold a valid CPL (Commercial Pilot Licence) or ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) with a current Class 1 Medical Certificate. Multi-crew cooperation (MCC) certification is also typically required.
The course combines theoretical knowledge (aircraft systems, performance, limitations, procedures) with practical training in a Full Flight Simulator (FFS). Training culminates in the applicable DGCA skill test conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements.
